What to check before you rewrite anything—and how to separate a traffic problem from a conversion problem.
Start with the constraint, not the copy
Changing a listing is easy. Knowing what deserves to change is harder. Begin by identifying whether the listing is struggling to be discovered, earn a click, or convert attention into a confident purchase.
Read the right signals together
Search query performance, advertising data, sessions, conversion, returns, customer questions, and private research each show a different part of the experience. No single metric explains the whole listing.
Use a four-layer audit
Review discovery, first impression, decision support, and expectation integrity. The strongest changes remove a visible source of friction while keeping product claims accurate.
Prioritize changes by confidence and impact
Record the evidence, expected shopper behavior, implementation effort, and measurement window for every proposed change. Fix accuracy first, then comprehension and competitive clarity.
Measure responsibly
Define a baseline and interpret results alongside traffic mix, price, inventory, seasonality, advertising, and category events.
